ISSUE REVIEWED This request has been marked resolved by the Town of Brookline. This tree is registered as a Heritage Tree in the Town following the passage of Warrant Article 17 at the October 2025 Town Meeting, as it exceeds 32 inches in diameter. It is also a public shade tree protected under Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 87, which requires a public hearing prior to removal. The tree was evaluated by a Town arborist on 4/28/2026 and was found to be in good condition. At the time of inspection, it did not exhibit signs of structural hazard or notable decline. Its rooting characteristics and root flare are consistent with those commonly observed in mature red oak trees growing adjacent to roads. Given the tree’s current health, legal protections, and significant public value, removal is not supported at this time. If roots are contributing to specific sidewalk, lawn, or structural concerns, the Town can review whether maintenance or mitigation options may be appropriate. - After a careful inspection of the area, we have determined that there is no safety hazard on this sidewalk. While there are some cracks in the concrete, they do not present a risk to pedestrians. Please note that repairs completed by the Highway Division are focused on addressing conditions that may create a potential hazard, in order to ensure the safety and well-being of our community. - about 7 hours ago #SR-133999
